To protect lives from pandemics

The coronavirus infection (COVID-19) quickly spread around the world after the first case was confirmed in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. This infection has become a threat comparable to the "Spanish Flu" that infected about 500 million people around the world almost 100 years ago and killed tens of millions of people. COVID-19 has already claimed more than 400,000 lives worldwide (as of June 8, 2020), and the biggest recession of the postwar era is about to arrive as cities are sealed off and economic activity is shut down. Over time, the number of new infections has been slowly declining, and the situation is starting to come to an end in some countries and regions. However, as we resume economic activity in the future, our lives will be forced to take a social distance to prevent a second or third wave of infection spread. As this continues, we wanted to value-translate the social constraints of social distancing into something positive and enjoyable.

Prepare for infection with coin-shaped stickers in a fun way

Eisuke Tachikawa, president of NOSIGNER, who founded PANDAID, a collaborative editorial website that collects wisdom on how to save lives from a pandemic, developed "LIFECOIN STICKER” as part of the activities. LIFECOIN is a floor sticker that can be used by businesses and government agencies that are resuming their economic activities while taking into account social distance. The stickers, which mimic the shape of the coins in the game, can also incorporate a motion sensor as a feature, and when you step on the sticker, a distinctive sound effect will sound. In various games, coins are both a symbol and motif for increasing life. This is what inspired us to create these stickers, and we hope that people will be aware of protecting their own lives and those of their loved ones. We created this design in a fun way to easily reach people of all ages.

Towards a future where we can positively practice social distancing

The video showing how to use the LIFECOIN STICKER was widely shared on social media immediately after it was released. Also, the circle of activities is gradually expanding as we have raised supporters through crowdfunding sites. We are also in talks with several local governments to collaborate with them in a donate way, and we plan to spread the stickers in places where we expect to see crowds of people, such as hospitals, city hall counters, supermarkets, restaurant checkout lines, bus stops, train platforms, and ticket vending machines. It is said that it will take several years for this pandemic to cool down globally. That’s why our goal is to create an environment in which social distance can be practiced in our daily lives, and also to be well prepared for the second and third waves of infection that are expected to occur in the future.
