PROJECT

C.R.E.S. PARTNERS

We led the comprehensive branding for "C.R.E.S. PARTNERS," a business succession platform by C&R EVERLASTING STORY Co., Ltd. that bridges the careers of executives with the legacies of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

HOW

C.R.E.S. PARTNERS: Cultivating a Community for Executive Second Chances.

“C.R.E.S. PARTNERS,” launched by C&R EVERLASTING STORY Co., Ltd. is a platform that facilitates business succession by matching former executives of listed companies with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) struggling with a lack of successors. Inspired by their mission, we undertook the comprehensive branding—from naming and logo design to the core concept and website development.

The name “C.R.E.S.” is an acronym for “Creek & River Everlasting Story.” In alignment with this, we crafted the catchphrase “Your Story Never Ends,” embodying our commitment to connecting two vital narratives: the continuation of an individual’s professional journey and the preservation of a company’s heritage.

For the logo, we established “annual rings” as the central design concept. This motif overlays the beauty of tree rings—which grow and mark the passage of time—with the careers of executives and the history of enterprises that mature and gain value over the years. On the website, we introduced an interactive experience where the annual rings expand and foliage grows as the user scrolls, visually representing how the accumulation of time leads to new prosperity.

Today, “C.R.E.S. PARTNERS” operates on three pillars: business succession/M&A, networking, and an academy. It also publishes C.R.E.S. PARTNERS MAGAZINE, a specialized journal that spotlights the next challenges for former large-corporation executives. The platform has evolved into a community that provides a stage for participants to remain active while sharing their philosophies and experiences with the next generation.

WHY

The Massive Loss Born from Retirement Systems and Business Succession Issues.

In an era often defined as the “100-Year Life,” human professional longevity continues to extend. However, due to the traditional mandatory retirement systems in many Japanese companies, individuals often find themselves losing their social standing and the opportunity to exercise their skills upon reaching age 65—even when their motivation and capabilities remain at their peak. It is not uncommon for the invaluable expertise of executives, who have built illustrious careers and led major corporations, to simply fade into obscurity.

Simultaneously, Japan’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are facing a critical shortage of successors. Despite being “national treasures” with sound operations, unique technologies, and rich cultural heritages, an increasing number of these firms are forced to close their doors simply because they lack a clear path for transition after the founder’s retirement.

According to research by Teikoku Databank, more than 87,000 employees lost their jobs in 2024 due to business closures and dissolutions. The disappearance of a single company signifies more than just the cessation of economic activity; it represents the loss of a founder’s dream, the livelihoods of employees, and the carefully nurtured culture and history of the enterprise.

The severance of careers for highly motivated individuals and the premature end of the stories of Japan’s SMEs represent two profound losses. Together, they inflict a significant and lasting wound on Japanese society.

WILL

Cultivating Global Innovators in Harmony with Nature.

The journey of “C.R.E.S.” has only just begun. As this community thrives, we believe it will serve as a vital conduit—ensuring that the technologies and aspirations of companies, which might otherwise have faded away, are entrusted to passionate leaders and carried forward into the future.

Our definition of sustainability extends beyond environmental conservation. For an enterprise, we believe that true sustainability lies in achieving “Longevity”—the ability to transcend a single generation and pass down value across eras, much like the venerable shinisé (long-established) firms of Japan.

Through “C.R.E.S.”, we aim to bridge the narratives of individuals and enterprises that were quietly approaching their end, weaving them into a new story for the future. By doing so, we aspire to contribute to the enduring prosperity of Japanese society as a whole. This is our vision.
