HOW
Wallpaper that maximizes the inherent beauty of paper.
WhO is a digitally printed wallpaper brand that collaborates with a wide range of creators—designers, illustrators, photographers—as well as fashion and product brands. Invited by the creative unit graf, which produces WhO, we designed the wallpaper series Paper of Nature, focusing on the inherent beauty of paper itself.
With the concept of expressing the natural beauty that emerges from the material properties of paper, we conducted a series of studies exploring its physical phenomena—tearing, burning, cutting, wetting, blurring, layering, and folding. By photographing these experiments and translating them into wallpaper patterns using digital printing techniques, we sought to reveal the authentic beauty that paper possesses.
WHY
Rediscovering a life surrounded by paper.
A wide range of materials are used for architectural interiors—wood, brick, concrete, and more—but when it comes to wall surfaces, paper (wallpaper) remains the most common material. As a mass-producible and affordable form of interior decoration made possible through printing, wallpaper often imitates the textures of other materials such as wood, concrete, fabric, or tile.
Today, we may be living in an era where humans are more surrounded by paper than at any other point in history. Yet, in our everyday lives, we rarely stop to recognize this fact.
WILL
New perspectives inspire creativity.
Even the things we take for granted in our daily lives can transform the way we see the world when approached from a creative, unconventional point of view. We hope that by bringing this wallpaper into everyday spaces, it will encourage people to rediscover their surroundings and, even in small ways, spark and enhance their creativity.
