We created the visual design for the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. With a one hundred year history, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra is the oldest orchestra in Japan.
For the pamphlets of the 2014 regular season we used the concept of “line systems”, which are used in font design, and connected this with the idea of musical staffs to aid the visual representation. The color scheme was based on a sparkling golden color, to convey the image of the gorgeous sound of the orchestra. The accordion-style format was chosen to make the pamphlet easy to understand. We placed the content of the three concert halls, eight concerts each, on its respective page. We also designed a red envelope to be used in conjunction with this pamphlet; the red color provides contrast for the gold content.
