The TECHTILE exhibition is a collaborative effort between designers, artists and researchers to integrate tactile design and cutting-edge technology.
One of our most primordial tactile experiences has to do with ice: the acute sensation of touching ice; the satisfying sense of stepping on frost crystals. For this exhibition we designed a space on an incredibly low budget (2000 yen per square meter). In an attempt to invoke the many tactile sensations brought upon by ice, we used plastic cling wrap, a common household item. By layering over 10,000m of wrap we managed to recreate the sensation of stepping on icicles.
The TECHTILE exhibition is mainly staged by 2 researchers of the university, Yasuaki Kakehi, Masashi Nakatani and Nosigner. The exhibition focuses at the integration of tactile design & latest tactile technology. Nosigner created the visual identities & the space design.
