Just 40 hours after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, we launched the wiki-style web project called OLIVE. OLIVE is an online site that collects and shares various DIY tips and tutorials useful at times of disaster. After its launch, people from all over the world contributed their ideas and knowledge, and the site was even translated into English, Chinese, and Korean, with the help of many volunteers. Not only were the ideas shared online, but they have become available in print as well. The name “OLIVE” represents Japan’s rising sun (“O”) with the message “LIVE”. We hope to continue expanding the OLIVE project so that there will no longer be people who become victims “because they didn’t know”.
